Farm gates to visit *ONLINE* this winter

August 21, 2018|3097 Views |0 Comments

During this long wild winter in the Coal Valley not every farmgate is hibernating. Some are busy online!

We have gathered together a bunch of local ONLINE produce shops that are open year ’round.

So you can shop from your cosy lounge room while the weather is too foul to venture out.

Ferments

SOUTHERN WILD

Ronald, Michele and Oliver make fermented products like sauerkraut, pickles, miso, shio koji and Kimchi. They are super conscious about sourcing their ingredients locally and organically/spray free. You can catch them at the Farm Gate Market (check their socials for dates) or you can subscribe to receive a monthly box of ferments right to your door if you’re in Southern Tasmania. So good for you!!

Olive Oil

FRESHFIELD GROVE

Farmer Fi tends to a delightful olive grove just outside of Richmond Village. You can purchase Extra Virgin Olive Oil that she has pressed onsite at her online shop. Fi is constantly innovating, so if you catch her at the Farm Gate Market in Hobart you might be able to try her table olives. Delicious!

Walnuts

COALDALE WALNUTS

As well as whole walnuts, Coaldale also offers walnut kernels that they have shelled onsite. They also have their tasty pickled walnuts, which are great with a cheese platter, they also make a great gift if you can bear to part with them!

Cheese

COAL RIVER FARM

The cheese makers, Tim and Candice at Coal River Farm make incredible hard and soft cheeses right there next to the cafe. And you can order their cheese online! What a revelation. Coal River Farm also have their handmade chocolates, confectionary and jam available too. So many delicious things, delivered right to your home.

WICKED CHEESE CO.

On the main road between Richmond from Cambridge you can find Wicked Cheese Co. You can have a tasting while looking into the cheese factory! They also have a cafe, but to save you from venturing out into the cold you can order cheese (and other local goodies) online.

Cider

LOST PIPPIN

In the north of the Coal Valley, Lost Pippin makes artisan apple cider and perry. They offer a mix of sparkling and still ciders that range from not-too-crazy-sweet to super dry. Something for every palette. You can order online or pop in to any one of a bunch of stockists. Check them out here.
